The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has raised alarm over the continued safety of Fulani herdsmen in southern Nigeria.
The NEF Chairman, Prof Ango Abdullahi has therefore asked the Fulani herdsmen to return to the North where the lives and property are guaranteed.
Abdullahi who stated this during a meeting with a coalition of northern groups said the continued spread of anti-Fulani herdsmen comments in Southern Nigeria has made imperative to ask the Fulani herdsmen to return home for their safety.
“We are worried about their well-being. If it is true that their safety can no longer be guaranteed, we rather have them back in areas where their safety is guaranteed.
“The bottom line is that their safety is far more important than their stay there. This is a country we all wish to keep together but not at the expense of other sections.”
On the clashes between herders and farmers, Abdullahi advocated for a judicial commission of inquiry to determine to cost of losses by both parties so as to look for ways compensation can be made.
