Atiku: Tribunal issues subpoena on INEC Chairman

The Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal (PPET) has issued a subpoena on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Mahmood Yakubu over the refusal to produce some documents used in the 2019 presidential elections to the legal team of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate.

The Chairman of the PEPT, Justice Mohammed Garba also issued a subpoena on the Resident Electoral Commission of Zamfara, Dr Asmau Sani Maikudi for the same reasons.

At the tribunal resumed sitting on Wednesday, Atiku’s counsel, Mr Chris Uche complained to the tribunal that the subpoena were served on the INEC Chairman and Zamfara REC but the duo refused to appear or make available the documents.

Justice Garba who cross-checked from the court records and discovered that the subpoena had been served on Maikudi and Yakubu on July 12 and 15 respectively directed the counsel to INEC, Yunus Usman to make sure Yakubu and Maikudi complied with the subpoena.
