Governor Okowa of Delta State has disclosed that his administration is working hard towards justifying the expenditure on the Delta State Accelerated Innovation project, adding that his administration does not meddle in the selection process of traditional rulers in the state. Governor Okowa made the disclosure on Thursday, 29th December, 2016, while presenting Staff of Office to two new monarchs in the State, His Royal Majesty, Obi Agbogidi (Engr.) Nduka Ezeagwuna II, the Obi of Issele-Uku, and His Royal Majesty, Obi Okolo Obanye, the Obi of Onicha-Uku, both of Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Barr Kingsley Otuaro, noted that his administration will always adhere to and respect the traditions and customs of the people and the laws of the State.
While addressing His Royal Majesty, Ezeagwuna II, the Obi of Issele-Uku, the 24 years old Industrial and Production Engineering fresh graduate of the University of Ibadan who is among one of the youngest monarch in the State in terms of age, Governor Okowa noted that Issele-Uku is blessed to have a youthful monarch at this critical period in Nigerian history and prayed for the anointing of virtuous leadership as explained in the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 10 verse 17. He appealed to him to draw from the wisdom of the people and connect with them by being a good listener as well as adopt democratic principles.
He told Obi Obanye, the Obi of Onicha-Uku to hold on to his responsibility as the promoter of the interest of his people and urged him to seek the cooperation of the people for the rapid development of Onicha-Uku Community.
Governor Okowa enjoined the monarchs to shun everything that is counter-productive and capable of limiting the progress of their people in their various kingdoms.
According to him; “As guardians of the tradition and culture of your people, it is important that you do not do anything to make your subjects doubt your ability to uphold the sanctity of their customs. I sincerely appeal to you, the Obi of Issele-Uku and the Obi of Onicha-Uku to imbibe the democratic virtues of dialogue and consultation in all your dealings with your people”.
While noting that Government has taken notes of the needs of the various communities as outlined in their addresses , the governor assured that their requests would be channeled to the appropriate agencies of Government for necessary attention.
He told the people of both kingdoms to have the responsibility to maintain the stability and peace in their communities by according the royal fathers their due reverence, co-operation, understanding and love.
In a separate address on behalf of His Royal Majesty, Obi Ezeagwuna II and the Issele-Uku people, Chief Isikwe Adigwe assured government that the Obi will do all that is necessary and possible to foster unity, order and peace in the land as well as providing the enabling environment for Issele-Uku to rise.
Chief Adigwe while expressing gratitude on behalf of Obi Ezeagwuna II to the Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Apolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin for his fatherly disposition towards the Obi’s internship in his palace, assured Governor Okowa of the loyalty of the people and thank him for locating the Delta State Accelerated Innovation Project in Issele-Uku.
He expressed optimism that the expedited and full take-off of the project will reduce unemployment among the youths and also create wealth for the people.
Also, Chief Steve Osakwe, the Ede of Onicha-Uku kingdom on behalf of the community pledged their unflinching support, loyalty and confidence in the present political administration of Governor Okowa because of the all round concern for the citizenry in the State more especially with the S.M.A.R.T agenda.
He appealed to the Governor for the provision of Teachers and administrative blocks for Staff and workers of Kanidinma Primary and Comprehensive Secondary school, provision of Health care facilities to the primary health care centre as well as granting of children in the community the opportunity to sit and enroll and write the examination as the ministry of education has cancelled the centre for years.
Chief Osakwe noted that the actualization of the various challenges facing the community when met will enhanced the wellbeing of the people more in the reign of HRM Obi Okolo Obanye.
The Chairman Aniocha North Local Government Area, Hon. Chuks Oseme, expressed appreciation to the State Governor for the recognition of staff of Office to two monarchs in his local government, and called on the youths as well as men and women in the local Government to support the Okowa’s administration.
